That's On Me
That’s On Me
-Malinia McNeill Woods
It’s easy to sit on the side lines and make judgement calls
When we are not actually playing in the game or even handling the ball.
The game of life has many rules that are open for interpretation
The rules change with time and opportunity which can impact the situation.
Although there may be circumstances and reasons to be blamed
At some point we must take ownership of the actions which caused our pain.
We can’t always point the finger at the other people involved
After all the finger pointing stops, what have we really solved?
Have we taken inventory of the evidence at hand?
Have we admitted how our own actions facilitated the plan?
Have we grown up from the childish behavior that contributed to our demise?
Or are we still holding on to anger towards the people we despise?
We can’t keep silent about the hurt that festers deep within.
We all have done things we regret, we all have committed sin.
Stop beating yourself up for past mistakes and start trying to make amends.
Everyone can think of things they’d change if they could start over again.
Just look yourself in the mirror and say “yeah, that’s on me.”
Accept that you are human and in retrospect you can see
That the past is the past and it cannot be changed no matter how hard we try.
So we may as well get over it and tell the past bye bye.
Bye bye, hurt, bye bye shame, bye bye heartache, bye bye pain.
No more feeling guilty about things that cannot be changed.
From this day forth live life with purpose and embrace all that you have gained.
